 Beautiful Port Macquarie

Beautiful Port Macquarie

For the third year in a row, Hunter Galvanizing were proud to be one of the major sponsors for the 2015 Port Macquarie 31st Golden Lure Tournament.

The tournament kicked off on the 9th of January with a briefing at Port Macquarie Marina and will finish on the 17th with the presentations.

With over 40 boats registered to fish the Golden Lure Tournament, bringing anglers from Jervis Bay GFC, Sydney GFC, Broken Bay GFC, Central Coast GFC, Lake Macquarie GFC, Newcastle GFC, Newcastle & Port Stephens GFC, Great Lakes GFC, Solitary Islands GFC, Cairns GFC  and of course,  Port Macquarie GFC.

Terry Morton, owner and skipper of a Caribbean 40 named Time & Tide representing Hunter Galvanizing,  is participating in the Tournament and we wish Terry and his crew all the best.

Day 1 started off with Sail Past and Blessing of the fleet at Lady Nelson Wharf from 7.45am, with fishing commencing at 9.00am.

With tough conditions of north east 20-25knot winds all day, and a raging current, made conditions hard to fish.  As a result 2 x Blue Marlin, 9 x Black Marlin,1 x Yellow fin tuna and plenty of Mahi Mahi (Dollies) tagged, one Dollie in which weighed 15.2kg on 10kg  line.

Day 2 saw  much better weather  conditions despite a little rain which resulted in 3 x Blue Marlin, 11 x  Black Marlin and heaps of Mahi Mahi (Dollies) and Hammerheads tagged. One Dollie caught weighed 20kg on 15kg  line. Quite a few more Blacks lost, and lots of free jumpers spotted, a couple  of  blues lost and we had a free swimming blue over 200kg that wouldn't  take  a lure.

With only a few days left the weather is turning around to be promising for the anglers to fish more comfortable conditions, which should result in better catches  for the tournament.

Good luck all,
